Upon receipt at Carr Tool, the tools are pre-inspected to make sure that they are good candidates for reconditioning. Tools with severe chips, or tools that have become too small in diameter to maintain the cutting accuracy required by our customers, cannot be reconditioned. In those instances, the customer is contacted immediately and the tool is either returned to them or scrapped according to their preference.

Once the analysis is complete, machining processes are determined. Reconditioning orders are scheduled and routed through our shop by our Engineering Department in the same manner as new tool jobs. A shop routing schedule is developed detailing the manner in which each Re-Grind and Re-Tip job is processed, along with estimated time for each machining stage. By utilizing this computerized system, your job is routed through the shop as efficiently as possible.

Once the reconditioning process is started in the shop, all tools are straightened to ensure roundness prior to Re-Sharpening or Re-Tipping. First piece and last piece inspections are performed to confirm that the job meets processing specifications. Upon completion of the finishing cuts, the reconditioned tools are Final Inspected and self-certified, eliminating the need for our customers to inspect their tools upon receipt.

All reconditioned tools are engraved with a job number, drawing number, and shipping date, and then carefully packed for shipping. For customers who request it and are located within 100 miles of our plant, we are happy to offer our own pick up and delivery service for your reconditioned tools. We also ship via both UPS® and FedEx®.
